Charter of Scopulus Incanus

1: Dedication

  • The covenant of Scopulus Incanus is dedicated to the discovery, acquisition, and preservation of knowledge, especially knowledge of our most precious Art. Therefore, this covenant will work on the recovery of lost knowledge, while also supporting the research of new knowledge, to make both available to our Order.

2: Rules.

  • This Covenant shall be Governed in all Matters by the Council of Magi.
  • The Council of Magi shall consist of all Magi who are full Members in good Standing of the Covenant
  • The Council meeting can be called by any Member, but at least 1 month notice must be given.
  • A council meeting will be held at least once a year.
  • Unanimous vote of a quorum of at least 75% of present council members to pass any rule.

3: Membership

  • All members of the council shall be full magi of the Order of Hermes. If ever a member is cast out of the Order, this member shall automatically be cast out from this covenant and council, losing all rights and privileges of a member, and forfeiting all his or her possessions to Scopulus Incanus.
  • Each Magus applicant must donate 5 pawns and perform 1 season of covenant service before becoming a member.
  • The Principle of Equality. All magic of the Covenant are equal, and will be granted equal rights and distributed equal duties.
  • Each magi member must perform one season worth of covenant work every two years in the covenant. If a member fails to honor this rule, they lose their voting power and access to Other Resources until after such time that a seasons worth of work is done for the covenant.

4: Other Resources

  • Members will be allowed to use the covenant's mundane resources, including grogs, if doing so do not jeopardize the safety of the covenant. The requisition of such resources should be discussed with the Council beforehand, unless an emergency arise. Wasteful use of covenant's resources shall be sanctioned by the Council.
  • The Library
    • Members shall have free access to the covenant's library for study. A ledger will be kept about the library. Into this ledger, a record will be kept of all books possessed by the covenant, with their origin. The selling of books, or of copies of book within the library, will have to be discussed and approved by the Council.
    • Whenever a book is taken from the library an entry shall be made into the library's ledger, noting which book is taken out and by whom. Furthermore, no member shall keep a book for more than a season if another has written in the ledger that they wish to study the tome.
    • Books brought to covenant from an outside source with no resources to gain such book from covenant are property of the magi who brought them. If put in the library they are accessible to any member of covenant, but the owner reserves the right to use book at any time. Also such books cannot be taken out of covenant, or traded or copied without permission of such owner.
  • Vis
    • All vis obtained from covenant's vis sources, and during expeditions decided by the covenant, shall be the property of the covenant. Member can petition the Council to withdraw some of this vis for their personal use. Donations to the covenant can also be made. A second ledger will be maintained by the Head of the Council, about vis obtained by the covenant, donated by or to members, and used for covenant's purposes (such as the Aegis). This ledger should also include a description of the vis, and where it comes from.
    • All vis obtained by a magi of the covenant is property of such magi. They may trade such vis with the covenant in exchange for a different type of vis, with the approval of a proper council vote.
