Born in Deheubarth, Wales in 1179.
Jebtha was born to a farming family and had always taken an interest in the riddles of
life. Jebtha's curiosity was recognized when he was a young man by Nicomus, the sole
Criamon mage from an otherwise all-Merinita covenant. Nicomus took Jebtha under his
wing, and after much study Jebtha was taken into the ranks of the covenant of Brynn
Bleddig. While still an apprentice, Brynn Bleddig was joined by another Criamon
-- an ex-Jerbiton mage -- by the name of Percival. After some time, Percival
managed to somehow offend one of the fae with whom Brynn Bleddig co-existed in an uneasy
truce. In order to keep the peace with the faeries, Brynn Bleddig expelled Percival
from the covenant and send Jebtha and Nicomus to make amends for the covenant.
Jebtha, Nicomus, and several of the grogs from
the Brynn Bleddig covenant journeyed from Wales to mainland Europe. What happened
next is somewhat vague in Jebtha's memory. Nicomus died en route to wherever it was
Jebtha and
Nicomus were journeying to, and became a ghost. Nicomus was unable to cross over
into the hereafter because he had left a goal unfinished. This goal must now be
completed by Jebtha in order for Nicomus to be at peace. However, also along this
journey, Jebtha -- in one of his many Criamon magical experiments -- experienced a serious
twilight episode, resulting in a loss of large parts of his memory. Jebtha has been
recovering his memory in bits and pieces, but still cannot recall what it is he has been
sent to do. Jebtha's normally bizarre outlook on life combined with his missing
memory and his talking to ghosts makes him somewhat unpopular with the grogs.
However, Jebtha's easygoing manner, fatalistic outlook, and cheerful naivete seem to
indicate that he is unhindered or unaware of his freakish appearance and knack for putting
others at unease.
